“Road to Freedom – In the Footsteps of Liberation” is a unique road trip from Normandy to Leipzig. The two influencers travel along the historic route of the 1st US Army, discover historically relevant places, meet contemporary witnesses and bring history to life:

What do the paths of US troops look like today? What does freedom mean? What motivated these (then also very young) people to leave their homeland and risk their lives for freedom? And what very personal, individual impressions of this current young, free generation arise along the way? On Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, this all comes to life, a chapter in East German history that is often forgotten, even by older people.

Leipzig is the destination of the road trip – and marks the beginning of the new exhibition “Routes of Liberation” at the Capa House. An interactive map is available at wege-der-befreiung.org, which uses photos and eyewitness accounts to trace the various routes of the US troops.
